DeadLift

The deadlift is a weight training exercise in which a loaded barbell or bar is lifted off the ground to the level of the hips, torso perpendicular to the floor, before being placed back on the ground. It is one of the three powerlifting exercises, along with the squat and bench press.

Deadlift Variations

Standard Deadlift

Standard deadlift hits all major muscle groups however is quadriceps dominant. Hip hinge is a must to lower the weights back to floor. Back needs to be straight throughout the movement.

Romanian Deadlift

Romanian deadlift targets the posterior chain with glutes and hamstrings being the dominant force to move the weight because the knees are not bent beyond a certain angle. Notice that in this case the weight is not dropped on the floor in every rep rather the barbell stays in the hands through out the set. This keeps the body under constant tension.
